Translation

The Bandit and The Devil


In one awfully pitch-dark morning, at four o'clock,
Men came for Dudek, bandit from Przegorzały town.
Surrounded by guards obedient Dudek left the block,
When beyond the prison wall blased up coppery dawn.
 
Dudek was terribly afraid, because who would not be,
and with longing, straight into dawning sun he stared.
He did not want neither hell, nor paradise to see.
He was not curious at all. But nobody there cared.
 
Wind of fear made Dudek shake like some withered clover.
He asked for cigarette. None had one, there was no need.
Devil heard. Galloped to town with breath taking speed.
Obtained, returns triumphant. And here it's all over…
